A glass tank 30cm. X 10cm. X 10cm. Is large enough for a single emperor with a heat mat that covers about two thirds of the floor area. For a substrate I favour vermiculite mixed with fine wood chips which should be slightly moistened and deep enough for the scorpion to burrow into with a stone, slate or bark on the surface for a retreat. Experiment with some plastic plant life, theres plenty on offer in the garden centres. Bright lighting should not be used, emperors live in the rain forest and very rarely if ever see the sun. Use only low wattage (around 40w) incandesent lighting preferably connected to a dimmer switch. Temperature should be around 80F although at nihgt this can drop into the high 60s and the humidity should be around 75-80%.
