07/04/03 Yeah long time no update,just waiting for the right moment for decent pics and for Bruce to recover after his serious bruising and broken bones, if you hadn't heard he had an airlift to Dorchester hospital after being flung from his DR250, he's recovering well and made the practice day to spectate. Practice @ Maiden Newton went well, yeah i know it was rougher than an Iraqi police interview but hey still an awesome practice track.Got a chance to ride a couple of 03 machines and was quite impressed with the drz 400 especially its electric start after over a year without one. 17/03/03 Doctors copse has been tested and tried by a few from the group and good god its bad,it hadnt rained for over a week and a half and it was still as slippy as a hell.Long thick grass on all routes through the forest with plenty of 3 inch round branches scattered here and there made for an interesting ride to say the least. All bikes made it to the far side of forest [say 2/3rds distance of loop] were a problem or 2 occurred, first Brian going axle deep then off track,followed by Bruce and then Dan, realising they werent gonna make it to my point [tree blocking road of large dimensions] i about turned and left the track myself : ( . Gradually about 5 of us made a team effort to extract our now very hot [great sunshine] bikes from a steep overgrown long strewn forest, im not sure how long it took but much sweating later we all made the haul back through to find Phil Colfox's Shogun bogged heavy ¼ of the way into the forest? General feeling was the forest was unsuitable but it has potential, with a bit of a clear up and some handywork with a saw we could have a great summer venue, the place is huge with streams, steep slopes and who knows what else [we didnt have a lot of time].Any feedback or idea's for the forest speak up and we'll see what we can do with Phil C, you never know we might get a cheap hire on it, or he did say he could find another venue, we shall see.Moving on,this weekend Dan has sorted a session for us all at Chris's practice track at Symondsbury so brace yourself for some serious aching next week.
03/03/03 Maiden Newton event was enjoyed by all participants and spectators apparently, sadly i couldn't ride due to a back injury which still has me off work. Paul Butt and Russell Gibbons being the only entrants from the trail riding group taking part finished 154th and 145th respectively. I will get some pics[updated] up of them both at the event its just i haven't found any real embarrassing ones yet. Rumour has it Andy Shrewd has gone and bought a spanking new 200exc ktm, Trev has geared his husky to pull 3 figure speeds, it'll be interesting to see how it holds against Bob's XR600r.
13/2/03 Big news everyone ive been in touch with a substantial local landowner for talks on hiring a huge forest of his, surprisingly all went very well, so much so as that on march 16th at 1000hrs we have been asked to meet him for a noise test. Aim hoping for a good turnout for this test with plenty of fully silenced machines,ive already spoke with Russ about his KTM's race pipe and he's gonna switch it back to the standard large can,if anyone else's bike can be silenced further please make sure you do so .If i have not got anyones email address who is a group member please send it to me on the link above or here
[8/2/03]Welcome to the first news post of the BTR, i put this site together to get a mailing list going and to help every member keep a check on whats going on each weekend. Well since this little club started around march 02 it has gone from strength to strength, every old dirt biking mate of mine seems to be either getting a bike or has already got one and joined the clan. We now have 12 active riding members not all turn up each week which is a good thing as it can take some organising. As were now approaching the quieter season[trail riding wise] with people pulling there sports bikes from the shed and the enduro season kicking off it'll be interesting to see how many members try there first enduro or hare n hounds event for the first time?
