For more than 30 years the Bretforton Silver Band have benefied from the local asparagus crop. Each year on the last Sunday in May the finest local spears or "buds of 'gras" are carefully tied with willow strips into traditional bundles and auctioned or raffled in aid of the band. The event takes place in the yard of the historic Fleece Inn, a 650 year old pub owned by the National Trust.

The world record amount paid for the hundred of 'gras {120 buds of the finest grass} was achieved in 1995 when the "Round of 'Gras" pub from Badsey paid £750 for it.

In previous years the event has appeared on TV worldwide. The atmosphere at the Fleece is electric and the yard packed solid with spectators. The evening finishes with a short concert by the band.

If you require any other infomation about the auction then please contact the band via this site or by telephoning 01386 834326.

This year the Asparagus Auction will take place on 25th May at 7.30pm. For more on the Asparagus Auction go to our links page.
