About us

We are a group of folk dance enthusiasts who meet once a month to dance and socialise. We are always looking for new participants and welcome new dancers. The club was formed in 1983 and has always enjoyed a fun atmosphere.

Many people have done some form of folk dancing without even realising it. If the terms long ways set, square set, circle, swing, do-si-do or balance ring even the faintest of bells then you have probably done some in the past. If you have never heard of them, then come along and find out what they mean.

All ages welcome. Don't be fooled by the logo, we do not do anything that requires sticks or clubs. We prefer the a more gentle approach and perform traditional English folk dances, and some American square and circle dances. This does not mean that physical exertion is not involved, you have to get to your feet move around at the behest of the caller. Our guest callers have a wide repertoire.

Health Warning

Folk dancing may seriously improve your health and increase your life expectancy whilst at the same time providing you with a great past time and increasing your circle of friends. Folk dancing is a physical past time and provides cardiovascular exercise.

We do have members who have suffered heart attacks in the past. They still enjoy folk dancing but now dance within the constraints their bodies set. They dance without over doing things.

Exercise is good for us all, if you are at all concerned see your doctor first and then come along and watch to see if you thing you can handle it. We don't all get up for every dance (much as we might like to), there are some dances that individuals don't like doing and so they don't.
