Amicus is one of the most democratic of trade unions.

Strongly industrially based, our structure means we can represent your interests effectively in your workplace, no matter whether you work in a factory or in finance. Each industrial sector in Amicus has its own policy-making mechanism and its own conference - so there are many opportunities for you to have your say and have a real influence on what Amicus says and campaigns for nationally.

The decisions of the industrial conferences go forward for debate to the Amicus national conference, which is held every two years. Getting involved and getting active in Amicus means not only that you can help your workmates but also allows you to attend, vote and speak at these important conferences and help shape what we do as Britain's leading union.

HOW YOUR REGION WORKS!

Every member belongs to a branch and an Industrial Sector.
Branches send a Delegate (1 per 1000 members) to the Regional Branch Conference. This will elect 4 delegates to the Regional Council and 21 Delegates to the National Policy Conference.
Every Workplace Rep (Union Rep / H&S Rep / Learning Rep) is entitled to attend their Industrial Regional Conference. This body will elect a Regional Committee, delegates to National Sector Conference (12 Chemical / 12 Pharmaceutical) and 1 delegate to Regional Council.

AMICUS POLICY AND RULES CONFERENCE
(The Supreme Policy making Body within the Union)

This is held every two years for Policy and every 6 years for Rules. Delegates are elected from Industrial Sectors (75% of delegation), Regions and Women’s / Equality Conferences.
The next conference is: May 2007 (Policy).
