Yorkshire Day Yorkshire Day takes place on the 1 August. It marks the Battle of Minden, when the Yorkshire Regiments wore White Roses in their helmets prior to the battle. The white Rose as a symbol dates back to the sons of Edward III. We lay a wreath on the war memorial each year on August 1st.

We celebrated the Golden Jubilee by organising a free concert and firework display for the people of Ackworth. People have asked if this could become a regular event.

Here we have the very moment the newly restored Cross was unveiled by Mr Davies. As well as helping out the group with info on the Cross the late Mr Davies was also the Archivist to the Ackworth School and was Churchwarden Emeritus to the Parish Church. He will be missed by the whole village.

The AHG came together with the aim of restoring the Cross and they were pleased to see this ambition achieved in 2003. Hopefully the Cross will be able to stand for many years imnto the future without help.

John Gully's grave is a constant source of work. Once tidied, nature sets in to make the work all over again. The railings need attention, and trees have recently been cut down to prevent further damage.
