Is committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for children and young people.

We try to do this by:

Recognising that all children have the right to freedom from abuse.

Ensuring that all our volunteers are carefully selected and accept responsibility for helping to prevent the abuse of children in their care.

Responding swiftly and appropriately to all suspicions or allegations of abuse, providing parents and children with the opportunity to voice any concerns they may have.

Appointing a Child Protection Officer who will take specific responsibility for child protection and act as a point of contact for parents, children and outside agencies.

Ensuring that access to confidential information is restricted to the Child Protection Officer or the appropriate external authorities.

Reviewing the effectiveness of our child Protection Policy and activities annually.

Rowing at sea is a potentially dangerous sport but by taking sensible precautions we will endeavour to reduce the risk to your child and maximise their enjoyment.

Safety Rules

1. No junior will be allowed in the boat if they cannot swim.
2. Juniors will be under the supervision of a responsible, designated adult (known to the Child Protection Officer) at all times during the training sessions.
3. Junior rowers and coxes will wear life jackets at all times when in longboats or skiffs.
4. The decision to 'go to sea' is the sole responsibility of the adult in charge of the training session and no boat will leave the harbour without his/her permission.
5. Rowing boats taking to the open sea will be equipped with flares and a mobile phone in case of emergencies
6. Rowing boats will only take to the open sea if accompanied by a rescue/support boat with a highly experienced helmsman.
