ABERYSTWYTH ROWING CLUB

Promotional Opportunities - 2007

Become part of the most successful sea rowing team in Wales in a rapidly growing sport, by advertising on one or more of our flotilla of Celtic Longboats & Junior Racing Skiffs

Aberystwyth Rowing Club since its conception in 1988 has become the biggest player in Welsh Sea Rowing, leading the way for others to follow. We also pride ourselves in our recent success, with our Veteran Men, Senior Women and Mixed teams lifting their respective 2006 league and National titles in the Wales Longboat League Championship. Proving our strength in depth, we also took the runners up spot in the Men’s categories and again secured the overall Welsh Club title. We also have a very strong junior section providing safe, exciting exercise for a large number of juniors every year.

At Aberystwyth we don’t rest on our laurels by settling for regularly winning the most competitive sea-rowing league in Britain. We also host and have won the now legendary Celtic Challenge, an 85-mile open sea race between Arklow in Southeast Ireland and Aberystwyth, which provides a real challenge for many top rowers. This event has been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the longest open-sea race of its type in the world. Aberystwyth is the only club to regularly enter three teams in this race.

Aberystwyth have also been the British Traditional boat Champions in 1994, winning the prestigious 22 mile Great River Race on the Thames in London, where hundreds of boats and thousands of competitors from all over the world. We are also proud to have had numerous club members represent Wales at the various annual International Celtic Water Sports Festivals held all over Europe.

Whilst it is nice to revel in our victories, this success has been brought about by much hard work, from both our rowers and our hard working committee, via fund raising activities and promotion of the sport to schools, clubs and the general public alike with open day events etc. making this sport readily accessible to any potential rowers, which currently range in age from eleven up to a veteran sixty year old.

All our members participating in sea rowing, some of whom train four nights a week, do it for the love of the sport and not for monetary gain. All funds received go directly into the sport - True Amateurs with the most professional outlook.

With the advent of the new Welsh Celtic Longboats, and with the aid of a successful Wales Longboat League Lottery bid, we purchased five new boats (three senior and two junior), to replace the now tired Pembrokeshire design, which has seen many years valiant service on the racing scene along our entire coastline. With the new standardized tamper-proof design, the skill and fitness of the crew itself will determine the race result, not the boat. This expense has obviously all but depleted our funds, together with the spiraling cost associated with keeping our existing fleet afloat and ensuring that everybody in our increasing membership, gets onto the water. Our boats are now showing their age and we desperately need extra funds to maintain our success.

Aberystwyth Rowing Club has always been proud of its self-financing abilities, however times are rapidly changing and this advertising opportunity gives you the unique chance to benefit; not only with the media coverage you would receive as part of the sole advertiser package* listed below, but you would also be able to offer your own corporate clients a "Come and Try Hands on Sporting Day Out" with a difference, thereby promoting your own business in a whole new light, and like-wise reap the subsequent benefits accordingly.

As a Sole advertiser* any reference to the boat in any media, which co-incidentally travels nationwide throughout the year, would incorporate your company name, and you would also be able to name the boat yourself if you so desired. We would also attempt to arrange for the boat to be bought along to your business premises for a suitable trade/ press release.

I’m sure you will see business potential not just locally or regionally, but nationally with your name clearly evident for all to see, costing you only a fraction of your usual marketing / advertising outlay.

As part of our stated policy we provide safety cover for our junior rowers. We have two inflatable safety boats but we are in desperate need of new funding to purchase reliable outboard engines. As the major longboat club in Wales we often provide safety cover for other clubs and our safety boats are seen in all the major harbours in Wales.
