Aberystwyth Rowing Club: The Rowing Challenge
The challenge Is a dual purpose fund raising event. The club attempts to row the equivalent of 300 miles in a day on static rowing machines (that's the disatance from Aberystwyth to the Mull of Kintyre in Scotaland). Groups of 5 rowers each row 15 minute sessions and the total distance for all 5 rowers is recorded. Many of the rowers will row 7 or 8 sessions during the event and the completion of the challenge requires a high degree of dedication and fitnees.
Rowers are sponsored individually to complete the challenge ( this money goes to the Aberystwyth Rowing Club) and all the money that is collected on the day goes to a local Charity.
In 2001, Safeway in Aberystwyth, allowed us to hold the event on Easter Bank holiday by the main entrance to the store. We collected £1000 for the Maternity Unit of Bronglais Hospital.
In 2002 Safeway, once again, generously allowed us to use the venue and the challenge commenced at 09.30 of Saturday 14 September and was completed successfully by 16.30 hours. A full 7hours of rowing. We collected £650 and this year the money will be donated to The Stroke Recovery Ward in Bronglais Hospital.

whilst others found it less fun
