Heilbron Commando
The modern Heilbron Commando is composed of experienced and dedicated British and Dutch reenactors and aims to portray faithfully the life of a korporalskap (section) "on commando" of the historical Heilbron Commando for educational purposes but also for our own enjoyment. The group also undertakes research on the two Anglo-Boer conflicts. We wear the same type of clothes as our predecessors and are armed and equipped accordingly with 7mm Mauser rifles, the .45 calibre Martini-Henry rifle and the .303 long Lee-Enfield. Bandoliers, saddlery and camp equipment are either made up or procured from  a variety of sources. We portray camp life on the Veld - living in tents and shelters, preparing and eating authentic food such as biltong, biskuit and mielie pap, playing  jukskei and singing and playing authentic songs of the period. Sometimes there are skirmishes with the rooineks (British "red necks") using blank ammunition and pyrotechnics. Our members work hard, enjoy themselves and the group is completely non-political.
