Great War Russian Section
Generally speaking we tend to turn out in mid to late war uniforms. This suits us admirably as it enables us to individualise our appearance yet remain true to the look of the Russian soldier of 1916-17. Our Russian grenadier platoon is based upon that of the first company of the 13th Belozersky Infantry Regiment.
The society has a second Russian unit based upon Bachkarova's Petrograd Women's Battalion of Death. This is something of a first in re-enacting circles, a combat formation made up only of women.
Great War German Section
We also have a four man Madsen machine gun crew based upon the 1st Musketen Battalion and another German section wrapped around a storm company of the 6th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment. All our Great War sections has been made honorary members of the Birmingham Pals, a prestigious WWI British Army group. We also work closely with other WWI re-enactors.
Great War Nursing Section
In 1909 it was decided to form Voluntary Aid Detachments (VADs) to provide medical assistance in time of war. By the summer of 1914 there were over 2,500 Voluntary Aid Detachments in Britain. Of the 74,000 VADs in 1914, two-thirds were women and girls. Our group aims to portray these brave women in a field hospital/casualty clearing post situation.
Russian Civil War Section
Several of our members also possess Red and White Army uniforms or are able to modify their Great War uniforms in order to represent several Russian Civil War military formations. For example by removing their shoulder straps our German units are able to turn out as Frie Corps types with a minimum of fuss or expense.
