There is going to be changes in the Brownie world this year, if you do not want to know about these please do not read on. Some people might want to wait until their individual meetings. I don't know if this is meant to still be secret, but Ive been told and I'm usually the last to find things out, so I guess most must know it now. Ive wrote this mainly for Brownies themselves and those who cannot make the meetings for any reason. The last Brownie programme review was in 1968, so it was time for an overhall. Market research was carried out and it was found that the emphasis should always be on fun and friendship rather than an extension of school. These are the new bits. Our pack is based in the NW region and therefore we have got the info before most other packs, but you will be fully enlightened in April. This is what I can remember from the meeting.
All the following will be available from April 2003, can be used from September 2003 and must be implemented by September 2004.
Whats going???
The Journeys...bye, bye
Freda the pink elephant....sulk
The Brownie Handbook...being replaced by new minibooks.
The Brownie Prayer...(did you know it anyway?)
The toadstool...You can keep it of you want (I know I'm keeping mine)
Birthday Badges
The 8 points, to be replaced with 3 areas; you, the community, the wider world.
Whats changing???
Sixer and Seconder badges...the new ones are squidgy and funky
Six emblems...supposedly the new ones are dead cute and there is a choice between the usual sixes and animals.
New funky yellow badges, about 2 inches in length with the badge names written on them.
More emphasis on mixing with other units and packs.
Whats new???
Brownie promise celebration instead of ceramony, the Brownie has more control over the event and the emphasis is on celebration.
Promise Box - a little luchbox type box given at the promise ceremony which the girls can put whatever they want in it. The new mini books are designed to fit in here.
New leaders pack - supposedly far superior than the current one.
The Brownies will get a nice little letter when they first start which will be adressed to them (nice touch aint it!). There will be stuff in here for both the Brownie and her parents but does not replace the current forms.
Any more questions then e-mail me and I'll see if I can help.
